The 2024 Peking University Outstanding Engineer Talent Cultivation Conference and the Peking University Zhengzhou Advanced Research Institute of New Materials Development Conference were successfully held on May 18, 2024, at the Zhongyuan Longzi Lake Academic Exchange Center in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The conference focused on the theme of "Outstanding Engineers - Pioneers in Building New Quality Productive Forces," and carried out themed reports and exchange activities related to the cultivation of outstanding engineers and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
Vice Governor of Henan Province Song Zhenghui, Peking University Vice President Academician Zhang Jin, Academician Chen Xuesi from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician Peng Shou, Chief Scientist of China National Building Material Group and Director of the National Innovation Center for Advanced Glass Materials, as well as leaders from relevant departments of Henan Province and Zhengzhou City, deans of material colleges from universities across the country, entrepreneurs, and representatives of engineering doctoral students, a total of more than 300 people attended the conference. The opening ceremony of the conference was presided over by Wang Tianbing, Vice Dean of the Graduate School of Peking University.

Zhang Jin and Song Zhenghui gave speeches respectively, expressing their hope that the experts attending the conference would speak freely, brainstorming around the cultivation of outstanding engineers and the future development of the Zhengzhou Advanced Research Institute of New Materials. They also hoped that the research institute could combine industrial characteristics and development needs to further create a good scientific research environment, stimulate innovation vitality, and strengthen scientific and technological strength.

Following that, the conference held the signing ceremony of the strategic cooperation agreement between the Zhengzhou Advanced Research Institute of New Materials and enterprises, as well as the launch ceremony of the Industry Development Fund and the Technology Achievement Transformation Fund.

Thematic report sessions were presided over by Professor Yang Huai from the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Peking University and Professor Song Kexing, Executive Dean of the Henan Academy of Sciences. Academicians Chen Xuesi, Peng Shou, and the chairman of Longbai Group and Ben Liu made special reports.

In the peak dialogue session, five guests including Gao Chengchen, Huang Qishan, Li Shijiang, Zhao Wendong, and Wang Jun, with the theme of "Cultivating Outstanding Engineers to Help the Development of New Quality Productive Forces," conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on how to build a system for cultivating outstanding engineers, how to improve the innovation and practical abilities of engineers, and how to strengthen the integration of industry, academia, research, and application.

In the afternoon, the National Material Science Seminar was held. Academicians Chen Xuesi, Peng Shou, and more than 70 deans of material colleges from universities across the country, as well as experts from material disciplines of brother universities attended the meeting. At the meeting, the deans and experts made special reports, and carried out exchange and discussion around the construction of material disciplines, the cultivation of outstanding engineers, and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

The material frontier technology application research and achievement transformation exchange meetings were also held in the afternoon, gathering more than 230 experts, scholars, and enterprise representatives from various fields such as materials and chemical industry, electronic information, machinery, biology, and medicine. Through more than 50 wonderful reports and themed exchanges such as the school-enterprise living room, the participants deeply discussed the future development trends and outstanding technical problems in the relevant fields, providing new ideas and new momentum for scientific and technological innovation and achievement transformation, and showing a beautiful prospect of win-win cooperation.
